Inspired by Dr. Sugata Mitra’s “Hole in the Wall” initiative, Vidit founded the EduGet Foundation to advance digital literacy among underprivileged youth. A dedicated social entrepreneur with a track record of leading impactful initiatives, he is committed to fostering a more equitable world.
During interviews for his company, Vidit observed that many graduates lacked digital proficiency and struggled with English communication, limiting their opportunities. This insight led him to establish a computer library, ensuring that underprivileged students receive the necessary support to overcome similar challenges. Drawing inspiration from Mitra’s “Hole in the Wall” project, Vidit designed the library to provide accessible learning opportunities and bridge the digital divide.
Bridging the Gap: A Digital Learning Hub for Underprivileged Students
Many students from lower-income backgrounds struggle to find a proper study environment due to cramped living conditions. Schools often lack libraries, and public libraries are scarce—
India has only 54,846 libraries, with one urban library serving every 80,000 people (2014 survey). A 2018 UNESCO report further revealed that only 12% of Indian public libraries have computers, and just 8% have internet access. In Mumbai, as of June 2023, there was only one library for every 10,064 students. With limited access to study spaces, many underprivileged students resort to studying in public places and gardens.
The post-COVID-19 era has seen an explosion of free educational content online, but students from low-income families struggle to access these resources due to limited internet data, small smartphone screens, and a lack of personal space.
